Dr. Corcos is a surgeon at the Department of Urology at the Jewish General Hospital, Professor of Surgery (Urology) at McGill University and Urology consultant at the Rehabilitation Institute of Montreal. Dr Corcos has been head of the Department of Urology at the JGH from 1990 to 2009.
He graduated from Montpellier University (France) in 1977 and completed his training in surgery, Urology and Tropical medicine at the same institution in 1985. From 1978 to 1980 he served in the French army as a surgeon at Bambari Hospital (Centrafrican republic) and was in charge of caring for lepers at Aghoudou Manda.
Dr. Corcos has extensively traveled in developing countries and has established cooperation and training programs, benefiting several young physicians in Morocco, Mexico, Cambodia and China. He has received funding for these programs from the Canadian government, the Société Internationale d'Urologie (SIU), and Canadian Urological Association (CUA). He is now involved in the coordination of cares for patients with vesico-vaginal fistulaes in several countries of West Africa
Dr. Jacques Corcos is involved in basic and clinical research. Funded by the Canadian Health Institutes of Research (CHIR), the Kidney Foundation and the FRSQ, his research focuses mainly on bladder dysfunction, benign prostatic hypertrophy, incontinence, urodynamic and neuro-stimulation. He is the owner of one patent and has recently deposed two other patent applications. He is the President-founder of the Canadian Foundation for Research on Incontinence ( www.CFRInc.ca) granting basic and clinical research in Canada.
Member of several journals editorials and review boards, Co-Editor in Chief of the Chinese Journal of Urology, Dr. Corcos has published more than 120 articles in peer reviewed journals, has written several book chapters and has edited: “Les vessies neurogènes de l’adulte” (1996), “The Urinary Sphincter” (2001), Neurogenic Bladders (2004) and Evaluation and treatment of Neurogenic bladders (2004). The new edition of “Neurogenic bladder” is in preparation (2008).
Dr. Corcos is heavily involved in medical education, teaching students and residents and organizing several national and international continuous medical education activities and meetings. For years he has been actively involved with the International Continence Society (ICS), presenting his team’s work, moderating sessions and animating workshops. Most notable was his role as Chair of the 35th ICS annual meeting in 2005. That meeting saw the biggest attendance ever for an ICS meeting (3500 delegates) and received outstanding feed back from the attendees. In addition, he has been the Co chair of the 4 “Forum international Francophone de Pedagogie medicale” (2000-3-7-10).
He is a member of several national and International Societies and Associations. Since November 2008 he is the General secretary of the International Continence Society. Since 2006 he has been the President of Palais des congrès Ambassadors' Club of Montreal, involved in the promotion of the city. He is also the president of a non-governmental organization (Mere-Enfants du monde) focusing mainly on women care in Africa.
During his free time Dr. Corcos enjoys being with his family, reading, hiking, playing tennis and cooking.
