Surgical Gynecologic Oncology
Established in 2003, the Gynecologic Oncology program at the Segal Cancer Centre concentrates exclusively on the study and treatment of gynecologic cancers, focusing on centralized care for women offers. Daily clinics are offered to detect, diagnose, follow, and treat gynecologic cancers, including surgery, chemotherapy, and supportive care. Weekly tumour board conferences are held where the Center’s team members bring their unique perspectives and expertise to the discussion of individual patients in order to elaborate the best treatment options available.
The team is heavily involved in basic research in their molecular laboratory, and since December 2007, they have pioneered the introduction and evaluation of computer assisted “Robotic” surgery, and have become a leader in the use of this minimal invasive technology in Canada. Current peer reviewed studies on robotics in gynecologic oncology performed by the team show improved outcome and satisfaction, reduced hospitalization, shorter recovery, better quality of life, and decreased cost.
