Overview
The Pharmacy Department’s missions are to
- Provide high quality pharmaceutical care services throughout the CIUSSS’ network of institutions
- Ensure each patient receives the most optimal medication and pharmaceutical services
- Assure all patients and healthcare professionals receive accurate and precise information about medication
- Contribute to the advancement of health knowledge through research and innovation
The Pharmacy Department is comprised of a team of approximately 120 members, including over 50 pharmacists, over 60 pharmacy technical assistants and support staff, pharmacy and technical assistant students and residents.
Services
- Unit dose or multidose preparation & delivery of medications to all hospitalized patients
- Prescription validation of more than 1,300,000 transactions per year
- Preparation of more than 350,000 sterile and non-sterile products yearly
- Medication reconciliation on admission, transfer and discharge
- Provide nurses and physicians with accurate medication information and council on pharmacotherapy management
- Publication of more than 80 Pharmacy Update
- Managing the smart pump software and ensuring compliance to the drug library (99 % adherence)
- Offer teaching to Pharmacy students, residents, and other members of the interdisciplinary team on pharmacotherapy and drug information
- Identification & reporting of adverse drug reactions
- Review of medication related incidents and accidents
- Develop and update treatment protocols, guidelines & policies & procedures to promote and ensure optimal use of medication based on best current evidence.
