Your health care team
Many different members of the health care team may be involved in your care during your stay in the hospital. Their goal is to work together to restore you to good health and independence.
Medical staff
While you are in the hospital, a doctor on the medical staff will direct your care. Your doctor will also be assisted by residents, qualified doctors who are continuing their medical education with the aim of specializing in a particular field. Your doctor depends on these residents to carry out your day-to-day treatment and to report on your progress.
You will also come into contact with medical students who always work under the direct supervision of the senior medical staff. If you are concerned about any aspect of your medical care, you are entitled to ask for a visit from your doctor.
It is important that you select one responsible family member or close friend as your doctor's contact. It will be this person's duty to keep other relatives and friends informed about your condition.
Nursing staff
You will be under the care of our nurses on a 24-hour basis. Shortly after your admission, your needs will be evaluated and an individual nursing-care plan will be established for you. This plan will be followed by the nursing staff in order to promote your health and well-being.
Members of the nursing staff administer medications and treatments that have been ordered for you. They also help you with your physical needs. If you have any questions about your tests and treatments, or concerns about your health, or if you need information about the care that your require after you leave the hospital, feel free to speak with your nurse.
Social workers
Hospitalization can be an emotionally stressful time for patients and their families. If you have a problem concerning your hospital stay or your return home, a social worker can provide counselling. For more information, please speak with your nurse. If you wish, you may also phone the hospital's Social Services Department at local 28240.
Chaplains
Chaplains of all faiths visit the hospital regularly. You can have your own clergyman visit you, or you can arrange for a visit from a hospital chaplain by speaking with your nurse. Bibles and prayer books are provided upon request. The hospital's rabbi is always available for assistance with problems of a spiritual nature. Please call local 25677 or 28232.
Synagogue
The Synagogue, located on the sixth floor of Pavilion B, is open 24 hours a day for prayer and meditation.
Jewish afternoon services (Mincha) are held Monday through Thursday at 1:45 p.m.
Volunteers
Volunteers, clearly visible in their blue (women) and white (men) uniforms, provide assistance in many aspects of the hospital operation. Their time is given freely and their efforts are greatly appreciated by the hospital.
