Overview

The Department of Medicine at the Jewish General Hospital both cares for the sick and educates new physicians for the future care of the population.

The Departmental mandate encompasses a range of expertise in medicine including general internal medicine, some 15 subspecialties, and a number of interdisciplinary themes (viz. human nutrition, oncology, genetics, clinical epidemiology, medical education, cell and molecular biology, and the social, legal, and ethical aspects of medicine). The  Quebec Ministry of Health has re-organized the structure of the Department of Medicine and included the ICU, Medical Oncology, Neurology, Pathology, Physiatry and Radio-Oncology as its divisions. These added divisions have their own website.

Its mission is to offer excellence in clinical care, education and research: thus it concerns itself with healing the sick, training future healers of the sick, and advancing the frontiers of knowledge about illness and its treatment.
