Overview

The Cardiovascular Prevention Centre (CVPC) provides timely, coordinated care for patients with cardiovascular risk factors and conditions. Medical experts from multiple specialties are readily available, allowing patients to be assessed promptly and referred to other cardiovascular specialists when needed.

Patients with hypertension, lipid disorders, diabetes, and other cardiovascular conditions benefit from an integrated approach that combines medical treatment with lifestyle and dietary support. Diabetic patients also have access to dietitian consultations focused on sustainable lifestyle changes. This model reflects Dr. Ernesto Schiffrin’s long-standing vision for the CVPC at the Jewish General Hospital.

Clinical Services

  • Hypertension (including Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring - ABPM) and dyslipidemia management
  • Peripheral artery disease and atherothrombotic disease
  • Obesity, metabolic syndrome, and diabetes care
  • Lifestyle, weight, and metabolic control support
  • Access to cardiologists, internists, nurses, and nutritionists within the same clinic

The CVPC also offers a rapid-access chest pain clinic, where patients with new-onset chest pain are assessed by cardiologists. Stress testing and results may be provided on the same day when required.

Integrated Care Model

The Centre takes a comprehensive approach to diagnosis, treatment, and research in high-risk cardiovascular disease. Care is delivered by internists and cardiologists, supported by a multidisciplinary team of allied health professionals.

With the addition of Dr. Matthew Ades to the Division of Internal Medicine, the CVPC has expanded its ability to provide modern, up-to-date vascular care for a broad range of cardiovascular conditions.

“Our integrated approach allows us to better care for our patients. Rapid referral to the right specialist improves the entire care process,” says Dr. Schiffrin.

Vision

Although the CVPC has been serving patients for over 18 years, it continues to evolve. Under Dr. Schiffrin’s leadership, the Centre strives for ongoing innovation and excellence.

An internationally recognized expert in hypertension and Physician-in-Chief Emeritus of the Jewish General Hospital, Dr. Schiffrin envisions the CVPC as a flagship facility for cardiovascular disease prevention at McGill University and the Jewish General Hospital—addressing the leading cause of death in Canada.
