Transfusion Service
The Transfusion Service at the Jewish General Hospital (JGH) provides 24-hour laboratory services, blood component and product distribution, as well as clinical consultation for complex medical and surgical transfusion cases.
The Transfusion Service provides comprehensive support to diverse institutional programs, encompassing oncology, surgical services, autologous stem cell and apheresis procedures, high-risk obstetrics, and level III neonatal care at the JGH, in addition to multiple affiliated health care facilities within the CIUSSS. It remains committed to excellence in advanced transfusion practice and to fostering collaborative quality improvement initiatives throughout the organization.

- ABO/RhD blood grouping
- Indirect antiglobulin testing and complex red cell serologic investigations
- Direct antiglobulin testing
- Compatibility testing
- Cold agglutinin testing
- Red cell phenotyping
- Transfusion reaction investigations
- Complex maternal serology testing and maternal antibody titer monitoring
- Management of blood products for patients
In addition, the following services are available via our close collaboration with Hema-Quebec:
- Red cell and platelet genotyping
- HLA and HPA-matched platelet transfusion support
- Extended serologic investigations
- Collaboration with the rare blood program
