Neurosurgery Clinical Programs

The Acoustic Neuroma program

The Jewish General Hospital is a recognized center which provides specialized treatment for patients with acoustic neuromas. All patients are reviewed by neurosurgery, ENT/neuro-otology and radiation oncology physicians to select and implement the best management option for each patient. Comprehensive treatment options are offered including surgical resection with intra-operative monitoring of hearing and facial nerve function, stereotactic radiosurgery and fractionated stereotactic radiotherapy.

Neurosurgeon: Salvatore Di Maio, MD

Otologic Surgeons: Tamara Mijovic, MD and Jamie Rappaport, MD

Radiation oncologists: Khalil Sultanem, MD and Thierry Muanza, MD

The Skull Base program

The neurosurgeons at the Jewish General Hospital specialize in open and minimally invasive techniques to remove benign and malignant tumours of the skull base, pituitary gland and spine. These include meningiomas, schwannomas, craniopharyngiomas, chordomas, chondrosarcomas, epidermoid tumours, cholesterol granulomas, and other less common neoplasms. Neurosurgeons and head and neck surgeons work in close collaboration and review all patients at a combined tumour board to diagnose, stage and select the optimal treatment for patients with skull base tumours.

The Pituitary program

Our team of physicians at the Jewish General Hospital provides specialized care for patients with pituitary disorders, including pituitary adenomas, Cushing’s disease, acromegaly, prolactinomas, Rathke’s cleft cysts, craniopharyngiomas and other disorders affecting pituitary gland function.

Patients are seen and evaluated in our multidisciplinary pituitary clinic where they meet both the neurosurgeon and endocrinologist, who work in close collaboration to provide streamlined care. Neurosurgeons at the Jewish General Hospital are specialized in endoscopic endonasal techniques to remove pituitary tumors.
