Neurosurgery Clinical Programs

The Neuro-Otology program

The neuro-otology team: treats patients with acoustic neuromas, which are benign brain tumours that affect the functioning of the inner ear. Patients are reviewed in a tumour board setting with neurosurgeons, neuro-otologists and radiation oncologists to select and implement the best treatment option for patients with acoustic neuromas, including observation, surgical resection, radiosurgery and fractionated stereotactic radiotherapy (Neurosurgeon: Salvatore Di Maio, MD; Otologic Surgeon: Jamie Rappaport, MD; Radiation oncologists: Khalil Sultanem, MD, Thierry Muanza, MD)

The Skull Base program

The skull base team diagnoses and treats tumours that frequently affect the base of the skull, such as meningiomas, schwannomas, craniopharyngiomas, chordomas, chondrosarcomas, epidermoid tumours, cholesterol granulomas, and other less common neoplasms. Neurosurgeons and head and neck surgeons work in close collaboration and review all patients at a combined tumour board to diagnose, stage and select the optimal treatment for patients with skull base tumours. Surgeons at the Jewish General Hospital are specialized in complex open and minimally invasive endonasal endoscopic approaches to the skull base. (Neurosurgeons: Salvatore Di Maio, MD, Jeff Golan, MD ; Head and Neck Surgeons: Martin Black, MD, Michael Hier, MD, Saul Frenkiel, MD, Alex Mlynarek, MD, Marc Tewfik, MD)

The Pituitary program

The pituitary team works with the Division of Endocrinology to diagnose and treat patients with pituitary adenomas and other lesions affecting the pituitary gland. Neurosurgeons at the Jewish General Hospital are specialized in endoscopic endonasal techniques to remove pituitary tumors. (Neurosurgeon: Salvatore Di Maio, MD)

The Spine program

The spine team consists of neurosurgeons who work in close collaboration with orthopedic surgeons on cases of metastatic and primary tumours of the spine. The surgeons at the Jewish General Hospital are specialized in both minimally invasive and complex open procedures for spinal disorders (Neurosurgeon: Jeff Golan, MD; Orthopedic Surgeon: Peter Jarzem, MD)
