Howard Dermer

President of the JGH Board of Governors

Howard Dermer, a long-time supporter of the JGH and former Chair of the JGH Foundation, has been elected President of the hospital’s Board of Governors, a key aspect of whose mandate is to safeguard the institution’s unique heritage, identity and character.

Speaking at the Annual General Meeting of the JGH on October 19, Mr. Dermer said he looks forward to doing his utmost on behalf of patients by working closely with the Board of Governors, and with the Board of Directors of CIUSSS West-Central Montreal and its President and CEO, Dr. Lawrence Rosenberg.

“The new challenges are there,” he said, “as are the right people to confront them and ensure that the JGH continues its proud tradition of leadership in providing quality medical services to the people of our city and our province.”

Mr. Dermer, Counsel in the law firm of Lapointe Rosenstein Marchand Melançon L.L.P., joined the Foundation’s Board of Directors in 2009 and went on to a position as Chair from 2013 to 2016.

He also provided leadership to the Foundation as Vice-Chair, Secretary, Legal Coordinator and member of several committees. In addition, he took an active role in various Foundation events, serving as Co-chair of the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer in 2010 and 2011, and as a member of the 2013 Golf Classic Organizing Committee.

In recognition of his commitment to the hospital, Mr. Dermer received the Foundation’s Distinguished Service Award in 2011.
