Humanization of Care Committee (HOC)
The Humanization of Care Committee (HOC) at the Jewish General Hospital – Sir Mortimer B. Davis (JGH-SMBD) is a volunteer-based group committed to integrating, improving, and promoting patient-centered care in every aspect of the hospital.
Founded in the late 1990s through the vision of philanthropist Mr. Morton Brownstein, the committee has since been chaired by a variety of leaders, including hospital staff and, more recently, through a partnership between a community member and a hospital employee. The current co-chairs are Ms. Krystle North and Ms. Susan Lavy.
The committee is made up of engaged and creative CIUSSS staff and community volunteers who work together to make the hospital environment more human, warm, and respectful for patients, their families, and staff alike.
We believe that patient-centered care is a fundamental pillar of the hospital’s practices, systems, and procedures. The committee identifies key moments of contact between the hospital and patients, then designs and implements projects that enhance those experiences. In some cases, initiatives are transferred to the appropriate hospital departments to ensure ongoing support and sustainability.
