Stroke Awareness Week Events June 13 to 17

Act FAST. Lifesaving treatment begins the second you call 9-1-1.

June is Stroke Month. There are an estimated 62,000 strokes in Canada each year. Stroke is the third leading cause of death in Canada, a leading cause of severe disability, and the leading cause of hospitalization. You never know when you, a parent, a spouse, or a friend might experience the signs of stroke and it will be up to you to act. There are still too many Canadians who don’t recognize the signs, nor know what to do when they see them.

To help you recognize the signs of stroke and know to act FAST, the CIUSSS is organizing Stroke Awareness Week from June 13 to 17. Among the events are two information kiosks at the Jewish General Hospital and at the Constance-Lethbridge site of the LLMRC, and the webinar Meeting the needs of people after stroke: from Acute to Community, presented by Heart & Stroke and March of Dimes Canada.
