CIUSSS West-Central Montreal among Montreal's Top Employers

Montreal, February 15, 2022 – For the fourth year in a row, CIUSSS West-Central Montreal has distinguished itself as one of Montreal's top employers, in recognition of the importance it places on innovation, commitment, teamwork and the well-being of all its employees.

Organized by Mediacorp, Montreal’s Top Employers shines the spotlight on employers in the greater Montreal area who are leaders in their fields in developing and maintaining exceptional places to work.

“It is extremely gratifying for us to be recognized once again as one of the best places in Montreal to find employment and build a career,” says Dr. Lawrence Rosenberg, President and CEO of CIUSSS West-Central Montreal.

“We have long recognized that focusing on and meeting the needs of healthcare users can be achieved only if we take the same approach toward members of our own staff. If our employees are confident that they have the support of our CIUSSS, they will provide their own support—in the form of compassionate, professional care—to those who depend on them.”

Dr. Rosenberg noted that job satisfaction is also reflected in the eagerness of many employees to participate in a variety of pace-setting initiatives, many of which involve the digital transformation of health care. These include the Command Centre and the COVID@HOME project, whose success not only benefits patients, but is a source of pride for team members.

Similarly, Dr. Rosenberg adds, the remarkable efforts of staff during the COVID-19 pandemic demonstrate how strongly employees feel not only about healthcare users, but about the CIUSSS itself. “Many of them worked remotely for extended periods and cooperated to overcome significant obstacles, in order to ensure that they could continue providing care, no matter where the recipients of that care were located.”

“Not only do we encourage innovation and creativity among our employees, but our CIUSSS has put in place services or tools to help them on a daily basis,” says Beverly Kravitz, the CIUSSS’s Director of Human Resources, Communications, Legal Affairs and Global Security. “As an organization that cares about the well-being of its employees, we recently opened a daycare centre.

"In addition, our COVID-19 employee hotline, Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and an online program to ensure employee wellness remain readily available to staff. For the first time ever, we also held a Gratitude Week last year to recognize and thank all employees of our CIUSSS. It was a great success and we will repeat the initiative again this April.

"The many internal development activities, training days for our managers, our succession management program and our paid internships are other elements that distinguish our CIUSSS and make a difference in the selection process. Regardless of the facility within our CIUSSS, we can be seen as a place for long-term career development.

“The benefits, flexible working hours, teleworking opportunities, work-study-family balance, the number of weeks of vacation, and assistance with retirement planning are all elements in our being able to attract high-calibre candidates and our retention of talented and dedicated employees.”

Eight selection criteria

To be recognized as one of Montreal's top employers, the CIUSSS had to distinguish itself in eight key ways: physical workplace; work and social atmosphere; health, financial and family benefits; vacations and time off; employee communication; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement.

Employers in Montreal are evaluated by the editors of Canada's Top 100 Employers using the same eight criteria as the national competition.
