Psychosocial Research

 Sylvie Aubin, PhD

Dr. Aubin is a health psychologist specialized in psychosocial oncology, with clinical and research expertise in sexual and couple relationships after cancer. She is part of the Louise-Granofsky Psychosocial Oncology Program and works with both the Urologic Oncology and Adolescent and Young Adult Oncology Program interdisciplinary service teams. Her clinical and research activities focus on the assessment and intervention of post-treatment sexual and relationship adjustment issues.

 S. Robin Cohen, PhD

Dr. Cohen is a Full Professor in the McGill Departments of Oncology and of Medicine, as well as an Investigator at the Lady Davis Institute. Her research is focused in the area of palliative care, with the goal of optimizing the quality of life of patients with a life-threatening illness and that of their family caregivers. She has developed outcome measures for this population and has projects underway to study their integration into care.  Through her studies she also develops ways for both the community and health care providers to optimize the quality of life of patients and family caregivers. Dr. Cohen also has a program of research concerning existential wellbeing at the end of life, an important contributor to quality of life.

 Melissa Henry, PhD

Dr. Henry is a psychologist at the Segal Cancer Centre of the Jewish General Hospital. She is an Associate Professor at McGill University in the Department of Oncology.Dr. Henry has received two FRQS Clinician-Scientist Salary Awards. Her research program aims to implement and evaluate interventions targeting early determinants of mental health, combining translational research with a major focus on advanced cancer and head and neck oncology. Dr. Henry is Co-Director of the FRQS-funded Quebec Research Group in Palliative and End-of-Life Care (RQSPAL) Axis I on optimizing quality of life in palliative and end-of-life care. She is a board member of the International Psycho-Oncology Society (IPOS). Her international work involves advocating towards implementing psycho-oncology in National Cancer Plans and as part of Universal Health initiatives worldwide.

 Annett Körner, PhD

Dr. Körner, a licensed Psychologist (OPQ), is a Senior Research Associate in the Louise Granofsky Psychosocial Oncology Program and at the Segal Cancer Centre, as well as an Associate Professor at McGill University. Her research aims at enhancing the practice of professional psychology based on the best available scientific evidence. At the Jewish General Hospital, she is examines how patients with melanoma can best be lead throughout their care trajectory from the point of diagnosis, through the cancer treatment phases, and towards resources offered in the community.

 Carmen G. Loiselle, RN, PhD, FCAHS

Dr. Loiselle is Co-Director (Academic) of the Segal Cancer Centre and Scientific Director of Hope & Cope. She is also Professor in McGill University’s Department of Oncology and Ingram School of Nursing, as well as its Associate Director - Research. She holds the Christine and Herschel Victor/Hope & Cope Endowed Research Chair in Psychosocial Oncology, is an Elected Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences, and is Vice President of the Canadian Association of Psychosocial Oncology. She is the recipient of numerous peer-reviewed grants and has published over 160 papers including a textbook “Canadian Essentials of Nursing Research.” In 2020, Dr. Loiselle became Principal Investigator of a $12-million Health Canada Dialogue initiative to improve health and social service delivery for language minorities in Québec. Dr. Loiselle’s primary focus is how to best support individuals affected by cancer through the use of digital health and person-centered approaches.

 Karl Looper MD, MSc

Dr. Looper is a psychiatrist specializing in psychosomatic research. His current work at the Segal Cancer Centre involves a study comparing approaches to screening for depression in patients with breast cancer; and decision making for participation in clinical trials in oncology patients. Dr. Looper supervises post-graduate research students enrolled in the Master of Psychiatry program at McGill University.
