Overview
Radiation therapy uses high doses of high-energy radiation to kill cancer cells. It is one of three methods of treatment for cancer, along with chemotherapy and surgery. About 50 per cent of all people with cancer will be treated with radiation. Often combinations of two or all three methods of treatment are used.

The JGH Division of Radiation Oncology has a staff of over 25 cancer-care professionals, including radiation oncologists, technologists, nurses, medical physicists and an engineer.

In addition, the division conducts extensive research in the area of radiotherapy, in cooperation with other hospital departments and McGill University. The division is also involved in several national and international clinical research protocols at McGill University.
