Pulmonary Oncology  (514) 340-8222 x 3030

Medical Director
: Jason Agulnik, MD

Nurse NavigatorRobin Rashcovsky, BScN, Christine Prchal, N, MSc(A)

At the Jewish General Hospital, we are committed to enhancing both the length and the quality of life of lung cancer patients and in preventing the disease when possible. In fact, the JGH has become a referral centre for pulmonary oncology, seeing patients from throughout the province. Division members deal with all aspects of their patients’ care, following them throughout the course of their illness from diagnosis to treatment. This has been accomplished through the institution of an interdisciplinary approach to care and treatment where each oncology patient is assigned a primary care nurse who, in partnership with the patient’s physician, is responsible for their care. This team approach works very successfully to optimize patient and family well-being.

The interdisciplinary team integrates specialized pulmonary oncologists with medical, surgical and radiation oncologists, nurses, nutritional guidance and psychosocial support. The nursing staff are always on hand to co-ordinate patient care, and to provide support for symptom management, education regarding lung cancer, and emotional support for patients and their families.

The Pulmonary Oncology services include the following:
1. Fully integrated medical, surgical and radiation oncology services.
2. Access to the very latest in treatment options, including clinical trials.
3. Lung cancer awareness program
4. Interventional Bronchoscopy Program including:
      ● Endobronchial ultrasound biopsy.
      ● Cryotherapy, electrocautery and metallic stent placement to help alleviate patient symptoms.
      ● Lung Brachytherapy.
5. Prevention and smoking cessation program.
6. Interdisciplinary tumour board.
7. Referral to the Cancer Nutrition-Rehabilitation Program as required.
