School days and sneezin’ season

(Look for the complete article in the fall issue of
JGH News.)

Though it’s sad to bid farewell to summer, autumn can be a wonderful time, with long walks in the crisp air and coloured leaves crunching under foot. This is also back-to-school season, when we pack kids’ lunches, deal with colds and flu, cope with allergies to weed pollen and the mold in fallen leaves, get by on less sunlight, and find new ways to keep active.

To get the most out of autumn, the JGH Patient and Family Resource Centre has compiled a list of reliable websites:

Canadian Mental Health Association
Seasonal Affective Disorder

Eat Right Ontario
Keeping fit in the autumn months

Family Doctor
How to tell the difference between a cold and a flu

Health Canada
Overview of back-to-school health
• School lunch allergy awareness

KidsHealth
What to do about children who dislike school

Montreal Children’s Hospital
Gastroenteritis
