I am Delirium Aware! Specialized Approach to Senior Care (AAPA) Week, October 22 to 26 2018

October 1 marked the International Day of Older Persons. This day brings awareness to issues affecting the elderly as well as acknowledging their contributions to society. In honor of this special day, the Specialized Approach to Senior Care (AAPA) steering committee at the Jewish General Hospital is devoting an entire week of activities that demonstrate the different ways that we may help, support and appreciate our senior population.

Unfortunately, delirium is a reality faced by hospitalized seniors, but it’s a preventable one! Therefore, this year, the AAPA Committee has chosen to focus on delirium prevention during AAPA Week. Its goal is to show how an adapted care approach will decrease delirium among seniors in a hospital setting.

AAPA is an initiative of the Ministry of Health and Social Services. It was developed to prevent the functional decline in older hospitalized patients so that they may maintain their autonomy, dignity and independence.

From October 22 to 26, 2018, there will be guest speakers and information kiosks as well as other activities revolving around the concept of delirium. Consult the calendar of activities below for more information!
