New fundraiser on two continents – Africa and North America

Montreal January 24, 2018 - Hope & Cope is pleased to announce the launch of its exhilarating new fundraiser, Tell Cancer to Take a Hike.

“Taking Hope & Cope to the top of the world is our way of showing that there is life after cancer,” says Howard Stotland, Chair of Tell Cancer to Take a Hike.

This new fundraising initiative has two components: a climb on Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa, and Kili chez nous, monthly hikes in Quebec’s beautiful mountain regions.

The Kilimanjaro Climb will take place from March 8-20. Closer to home, the first of 10 Kili chez nous hikes will be held on March 17th. That same day, the Kilimanjaro climbers will make their final ascent to the summit of the highest peak in Africa.

“For everyone who loves nature and the great outdoors, Kili chez nous offers lots of opportunity for hiking and camaraderie. Knowing that cancer patients will benefit from the funds raised through these hikes will make the experience that much more memorable and rewarding," explains Kili chez nous co-chair Lisa Boucher.

This is Hope & Cope’s first foray into adventure fundraising. “I’m really excited to participate in Kili chez nous,” says young adult cancer survivor Denis Raymond. Diagnosed four years ago with an aggressive brain tumour, the 30 year-old is pursuing his master’s in social work and currently doing his internship at Hope & Cope. “Life after cancer isn’t just about surviving, it’s about living life to the fullest. Hope & Cope helps people do just that.”
