Overview
Nuclear Medicine specializes in a type of medical imaging that uses radioactive isotopes to help in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
The staff of the JGH Nuclear Medicine Department is comprised of six technicians who are trained to perform the scans, as well as a nuclear medicine radiologist, who is trained to read the scans and examinations. Every member of the Nuclear Medicine team is part of the Quebec Order for Technologists in Medical Imaging.

Patients need a referral from their doctor in order to be seen in Nuclear Medicine. The majority of cases seen in the department are referred by oncology, cardiology, pneumology, surgery, endocrinology and orthopedics.
