In summary, Dr. Hier is an academic head and neck surgeon with a very strong  interest in medical student and resident education as well as being an active participant in multiple facets of clinical research, including some pioneering work on salivary gland transfer surgery to prevent xerostomia in association with radiation to the head and neck. Dr. Hier is involved in clinical trials that implement electroporation treatment for head and neck cancer. Dr. Hier performs endoscopic laser laryngeal surgery at the Sir Mortimer B. Davis Jewish General Hospital and McGill University. Dr. Hier is also head and neck Oncology Co-Chair for the Canadian Society of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery and has recently completed a term as a committee member for the education committee of the American Head and Neck Society, and remains actively involved at the national level.
