Problems with accessing AMA journals through McGill

There is a problem with the subscriptions at Mcgill with AMA journals. In the meantime they have offered us access by username and password which will only be useable through to the end of this month. It has been tested and it does work. We can share it as widely as we want, but it will stop working at the end of the month.
Click on the "Sign in" button at the top right of any AMA journal site and login with the following:

Username: amajnlsdec
Password: blu3drag0n

The Institute for Healthcare Improvement has partnered with JAMA to facilitate the transition of science into practice through the series Author in the Room. In this series, the author of a study published in JAMA with the potential to change clinical practice will talk with clinicians during a conference call, facilitated by clinical experts in implementing changes in practice. The call will be followed by a discussion group and participants will be assessed to determine the degree to which they believe they have implemented change within their practice. Taylor’s Video Guide to Clinical Nursing Skills

The McGill Life Sciences Library has received and catalogued the 2nd edition of Taylor’s Video Guide to Clinical Nursing Skills, 2010. Previously this resource was available as a stand-alone series of DVDs. They are now available for viewing as streaming video.

EZproxy Now Available at the McGill Library

EZproxy is now available to McGill Library users. EZproxy is a quick, easy, and convenient method to gain off-campus access to McGill Library subscription databases. Unlike the Virtual Private Network (VPN), it requires no prior computer or browser set-up. All users need to do is to login using their McGill username and password when prompted. Users will be asked to login only once per browser session.

New JGH subscription to Natural Standard Database

The JGH Health Sciences Library has purchased a license for Natural Standard. “Natural Standard provides high quality, evidence-based information on dietary supplements (including herbs, vitamins, and minerals), functional foods, diets, complementary practices (modalities), exercises, and medical conditions.” The Database includes detailed information for health professionals as well as information tailored for patients and families for you to share.

For on-site access, click on Natural Standard on the Key Resources menu on any library web page.

For remote access (from home), please contact the library for the password.

The CMA has added a section on its website dedicated to the issue of third party forms. In addition to third-party-forms news and policies and a billing guide for uninsured services, this area contains information on federal disability programs, links to provincial and territorial forms pages and links to insurance company websites that have forms available online.

Plain Language Medical Dictionary

Beginning January 2010, a course will be offered on an individual or small group basis, in your office/department or the library. You will learn how to get easy access to electronic journals, information on PDF’s, RSS feeds, and how to subscribe to a table of contents service.

Dynamed

The McGill Library has a second trial of DynaMed until March 31, 2010, a point-of-care reference resource designed to provide clinicians with the best available evidence to support clinical decision-making. This will be especially useful to those of you working in Family or Internal Medicine. Use Dynamed as you would use UpToDate, an important difference being that Dynamed is AVAILABLE REMOTELY i.e. offsite, which UpToDate is not. Please note: to access Dynamed remotely you will need to sign in to McGill VPN.* Click here to access the resource:

McGill’s Dialup Access Service Cancelled

McGill’s Dialup Access Service will be discontinued as of December 2010. An internet provider such as Videotron or Sympatico will be required to access McGill’s electronic resources. Setting up through a VPN (Virtual Private Network) will be needed. McGill will send all users emails detailing the changes shortly.
